Dear Choral Singer,
I write to invite your participation in an exciting short-term summer musical adventure. Under the title Musica in Situ this ensemble performs a series of concerts in interesting architectural spaces. Now in our fourth consecutive summer, we will pair wonderful architectural spaces featuring beautiful stained glass with meaningful music, then savor the aural results. This year, Musica in Situ has been planned by a team of Ball State University students as an Immersive Learning project. All winter, they have sought and selected gorgeous venues and proposed musical repertoire to match. Now they are working to promote the concerts.
The ensemble is intentionally intergenerational; participants range in age from 18 to 80+ years! Our repertoire will include some favorites from prior years and even a new composition created just for this project. As always the performance aims to reflect the musical traditions and acoustic possibilities of the places we sing. While we take the endeavor seriously, we aim to create community events that bring people together with a sense of celebration and joy.
Concert events will also include an opportunity for someone from the site to present details of the architecture or history and usually includes some communal singing. I hope you’ll consider joining in this rewarding experience.
